A 25-year-old babysitter in New Jersey has denied any criminal wrongdoing after authorities accused her of recording and sharing videos involving inappropriate contact with a toddler, a case that has sparked widespread concern over child safety.
The suspect, Victoria Anne Cranmer, is facing multiple criminal charges after investigators allegedly discovered videos on a mobile phone showing a young child making inappropriate contact while she was unclothed.
During a recent court hearing, Cranmer’s lawyer, Marissa Koerner, argued that the brief Snapchat video captured what she described as an “innocent moment” and insisted the incident had been misinterpreted.
According to the defence, young children are naturally curious and often do not understand personal boundaries or privacy. Koerner told the court that toddlers frequently follow parents or caregivers into private spaces and may display behaviour that adults sometimes consider amusing enough to record.
Prosecutors, however, maintain that the videos raise serious concerns and warrant a full criminal investigation.
Ocean County Judge Kenneth Palmer ordered Cranmer to remain in custody while the investigation continues, describing the allegations as disturbing and requiring further examination.
Court records show that the investigation began on May 20, 2026, after a woman identified only as Ms P reportedly found videos on an iPhone that had previously belonged to Cranmer. She later handed the device over to law enforcement officers.
Police said investigators identified Cranmer in the recordings through her distinctive tattoos. After obtaining a search warrant, detectives reportedly recovered additional Snapchat videos involving the same child.
Authorities allege that at least one of the recordings had been uploaded to Snapchat before it was discovered.
Investigators said Cranmer had been living in Ms P’s home and regularly cared for her child. She also reportedly babysat another toddler belonging to a woman identified in court documents as Ms H.
To protect the identities of the children, court documents have been heavily redacted. However, reports indicate that both children involved in the investigation are approximately two years old.
According to police, Ms H later informed investigators that her son began displaying unusual behaviour after spending time in Cranmer’s care, including developing a fear of taking baths.
Following the investigation, Cranmer was arrested and taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, New Jersey.
She has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, manufacturing child sexual abuse material, and possessing child sexual abuse material.
The case remains under investigation, and the allegations have not yet been tested in court. Cranmer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
