Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to step aside from office, alleging that the president no longer has the capacity to lead the country.
Obi made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he argued that Tinubu should not seek another term in the 2027 presidential election.
According to peter obi, the president is no longer the energetic leader Nigerians knew during his tenure as governor of Lagos State, claiming that he has become too tired to effectively manage the affairs of the country.
“As it is right now, Bola Tinubu is leading us nowhere. We will turn it so he can see it. That’s why I’m calling for his retirement. The man should just step aside. Yes, he doesn’t have the capacity to do the job,” Obi said.
He added, “The Bola Tinubu that was governor is not the one that is president today. He’s tired. He should be allowed to retire in peace and then go home.
Obi further claimed that the president lacks the energy and commitment needed to move Nigeria in the right direction, insisting that the country requires leadership capable of addressing its numerous economic and governance challenges.
The comments are the latest in a series of criticisms by the opposition figure ahead of the 2027 general election. As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not publicly responded to Obi’s remarks.
