Bolt Driver Killed in Calabar After Allegedly Resisting Car Theft Attempt

A Bolt driver has been killed in Calabar, Cross River State, after allegedly resisting an attempt by three unidentified men to take his Toyota Corolla.

The incident occurred at about 5:30am on Friday along Target Road in Calabar South Local Government Area, according to an eyewitness account.

The driver was reportedly carrying the three men after picking them up along Mbukpa Road and was heading towards Calabar Municipality when the passengers allegedly ordered him to stop.

According to the eyewitness, the suspects demanded that the driver hand over the key to his vehicle.

The driver allegedly refused to comply, prompting the men to attack him with a knife.

The victim was reportedly stabbed during the struggle and sustained severe injuries.

Despite his injuries, the driver managed to drive into a nearby fuel station, with blood reportedly covering his body.

The suspects fled the scene after the attack.

Passersby reportedly rushed the injured driver to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of commercial and e-hailing drivers who often pick up passengers during the early hours of the day.

Confirming the incident, the Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, said the police command had commenced an investigation.

He assured that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the suspects responsible for the attack.

The police have not yet released the identity of the deceased driver or disclosed whether any suspect has been arrested.

The command is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the identities of the three passengers who allegedly hired the vehicle and the motive behind the attack.

The suspects remain at large as of the time of publication, while police efforts to apprehend them continue.
