The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman, identified as Anulika Onyeanusia, over an alleged case of child pornography and exploitation in Onitsha.
The police said the arrest followed the circulation of a disturbing video allegedly showing the suspect engaging in a sexual act involving a minor.
According to the command, preliminary information suggests that the suspect may have been using her daughter to produce adult content for online income. The allegation is still under investigation.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest and said police operatives also rescued four children aged two, three, six and nine during the operation.
Sexual-related items, including sex toys, were reportedly recovered and have been taken as exhibits as investigators work to establish what happened and whether other people were involved.
Ikenga said the suspect’s husband is also being questioned by investigators to determine whether he had any connection to the alleged offences.
The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, expressed concern over the allegations, particularly because they involve the alleged sexual exploitation of children.
He directed investigators to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the rescued children receive appropriate care and protection.
The suspect, however, has denied the allegations, claiming that the videos circulating online were generated using artificial intelligence.
The police have not publicly established whether the videos were genuine or AI-generated, making the ongoing forensic investigation important in determining the authenticity of the material and the circumstances surrounding the case.
The development comes as the Anambra Police Command continues to investigate cases involving child trafficking and exploitation in the state. In July, the command announced the arrest of three women in Onitsha over the alleged sale of two children, including a four-year-old who police said was allegedly sold for ₦2 million.
No charge or conviction has been reported against Onyeanusia at this stage, and the allegations remain subject to police investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
