Heavy Rainfall Destroys Yinti Bridge in Niger, Cuts Off Over 20 Communities

Heavy rainfall has destroyed the Yinti Bridge in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State, disrupting movement between more than 20 communities in the area.

The collapse has affected one of the major routes used by residents travelling between Bida, Badeggi and Katcha, with the damaged bridge reportedly serving as the shortest route connecting the communities.

The development was disclosed by Aishatu Lami Aliyu, Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Ministry of Local Government Affairs.

Aliyu said the collapse had significantly disrupted the movement of residents of Yinti and neighbouring communities, leaving many people struggling to move between the affected areas.

The impact has also been felt by farmers who rely on the bridge to reach their farms and transport harvested crops to nearby markets.

According to the ministry spokesperson, farmers are now facing difficulties accessing their farmlands and moving agricultural produce to markets, raising concerns about the effect of the damaged bridge on local economic activities.

The bridge is particularly important to residents because of its strategic location and its role as a shorter connection between the communities and major areas such as Bida and Badeggi.

The destruction caused by the heavy rainfall has therefore increased the difficulty of movement for residents who depend on the route for their daily activities, including farming, trading and transportation.

Authorities are expected to assess the extent of the damage and determine the next steps towards restoring access to the affected communities.
