The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the final list of presidential candidates and their running mates for the 2027 general election, with 18 political parties fielding candidates for the presidency.
The list, signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony, contains 18 presidential candidates, comprising 16 men and two women. The commission also listed 18 vice-presidential candidates, including 14 men and four women.
The two female presidential candidates are Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the National Democratic Party and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement.
The list places incumbent President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi of the Nigerian Democratic Congress among the leading names in the presidential contest.
Other notable candidates include Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress, former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement and Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party.

The release formally sets out the presidential tickets submitted to INEC for the 2027 contest and provides voters with the names of the candidates and running mates who have made the final list. Recent reports on the commission’s candidate publications also show that INEC has been making candidates’ personal information and credentials available for public scrutiny as required under the Electoral Act.
The 2027 presidential election is expected to be closely watched, with the contest involving the incumbent APC, major opposition platforms and several smaller parties seeking to challenge the established political structure.
