Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos pending the hearing and determination of her bail application in a case involving allegations of cyberstalking, cyberbullying and attempted extortion of Pastor Chris Okafor.
Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered her remand on Wednesday after she pleaded not guilty to three counts filed against her by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The charges concern the alleged publication of intimate photographs of the cleric, the dissemination of electronic messages said to be false, and threats to publish further damaging material about him.
During proceedings, prosecution counsel Tolulope Mokolu alleged that the offences were committed between September 2024 and March 2026.
Mokolu told the court that Ogala allegedly posted nude and intimate photographs of Okafor on her social media accounts without his consent, exposing him to embarrassment, emotional distress and reputational damage.
The prosecution also accused the actress of publishing videos, recordings and electronic messages containing information she allegedly knew to be false, with the intention of bullying, threatening, intimidating or harassing the pastor.
According to the prosecution, Ogala further allegedly threatened to release additional menacing and intimate material about Okafor unless he compensated her or bought her a house.
The prosecution said the alleged conduct contravened Sections 24(1)(a), 24(2)(a) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.
After Ogala entered her plea, Mokolu asked the court to remand her and schedule the matter for further proceedings. He also told the judge that he had received the defence’s bail application on Wednesday and needed time to study it and prepare a response.
Defence counsel N. C. Atulomah opposed the request for remand, arguing that the court had the discretion to grant bail.
Atulomah urged the judge to release Ogala, telling the court that she was a governorship candidate of a political party in Abia State and would attend subsequent hearings.
However, the prosecution maintained that it was still within the period allowed to respond to the bail application and opposed her immediate release.
In his ruling, Justice Aluko held that the defence had not placed sufficient material before the court to justify granting the actress bail at that stage.
The judge ordered an accelerated hearing of the application and directed that Ogala remain at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending its determination.
The case was adjourned until October 30, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application.
Ogala’s plea of not guilty means the allegations remain to be determined by the court. Her remand pending the bail hearing is not a finding of guilt, and the prosecution must establish its case through the judicial process.
