Nigerian skitmaker and actor Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, has addressed speculation surrounding Funke Akindele’s absence from the premiere of his debut cinema movie, Star Lomo.
The premiere was held in Lagos on Sunday, September 20, but Akindele was not among the guests at the event, prompting speculation on social media about the relationship between the actress and her protégé.
Kamo State has now dismissed suggestions of a disagreement between them, saying Akindele was simply outside Nigeria when the premiere took place.
In a statement shared on X on Monday, the actor said he woke up to several comments and assumptions about his relationship with Akindele.
“I woke up to see different opinions online about Iyamii and myself. Please, we’re on good terms.”
Kamo State said Akindele’s absence had nothing to do with any disagreement between them.
“She missed my premiere simply because she wasn’t in the country and nothing more to it, so please don’t assume otherwise.”
He added that he had already discussed the premiere with Akindele and expected her to support the project.
The speculation followed observations by some social media users that Kamo State and Akindele have appeared together less frequently in recent months.
Akindele played a significant role in supporting Kamo State’s career, particularly around the promotion of ** Everybody Loves Jenifa ** in 2024, in which he featured alongside other members of the cast.
She has also supported some of his other projects and has been publicly associated with the actor’s development in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Reports indicated that Akindele was in Ghana around the time of the Star Lomo premiere, where she was reportedly with singer Waje, who is involved in her upcoming movie project, The Four.
Kamo State’s latest statement therefore provides his explanation for Akindele’s absence and rejects suggestions that the actress deliberately stayed away because of a disagreement.
The actor has urged fans and social media users not to read more into the situation, as he continues to promote Star Lomo, his debut cinema film.
