American rapper Nicki Minaj has followed Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), on X after reposting his statement on the reported killings and abductions in Niger State.

Checks of Minaj’s public X account cited by Nigerian media showed that Obi is currently the only 2027 Nigerian presidential candidate she follows on the platform.

The development came shortly after Minaj reposted a statement shared by Obi in which the former Anambra State governor condemned reports of killings and abductions in Niger State.

Obi described the situation as a “systematic devaluation of human life” and called for intelligence-led action against criminal networks responsible for attacks and abductions across the country.

He also urged stronger measures to protect communities and citizens affected by insecurity.

Minaj’s repost drew attention from Nigerians and social media users in Nigeria and the diaspora, with some users welcoming the international attention being given to the country’s security challenges and calls for justice and protection for affected communities.

Her subsequent decision to follow Obi has generated additional discussion online, particularly because of the timing of the move and the fact that Obi is reportedly the only Nigerian presidential candidate among the political figures she follows on X.

However, Minaj has not publicly stated that her decision to follow Obi represents an endorsement of his 2027 presidential campaign. Her reason for following him has also not been publicly explained.

Obi became the NDC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election after the party unveiled him as its flag bearer at its convention in Abuja in May.
