Nigerian singer Timaya has urged Nigerians to carefully consider the consequences of their choices at the polls, warning that decisions based on immediate personal benefits could contribute to further hardship.

The singer made the comments while speaking about the state of the country and the choices Nigerians may face during the next election cycle.

According to Timaya, voters should not focus only on what they can gain immediately from politicians during election periods.

“Nobody dey advise anybody. If na wetin you dey find to chop now put for your pocket, na your business. No be one day o. Na another four years of hardship. If you know what’s good, you have to vote right.”

Timaya also spoke about his experiences travelling outside Nigeria, saying he had seen how some wealthy Nigerians and politicians live abroad while continuing to hold political positions in Nigeria.

“I dey travel abroad dey see wetin dey happen na. Rich people dey abroad dey no dey stay for Nigeria, these politicians. Dey just dey work for Nigeria.”

He questioned whether politicians whose families and personal lives are largely based outside the country could fully understand the daily experiences of Nigerians living in the country.

“Their families don’t stay here. So how you expect them to think right? They’re all selfish, even the ones that’re just coming and promising us they’ll be better.”

The singer also expressed concern about the possibility of further hardship under future administrations and called for Nigerians to consider the longer-term consequences of their political choices.

“God take any Politician wey go make Nigerians cry again.”

Timaya’s comments come as political parties and candidates prepare for the 2027 general election, with issues including the cost of living, economic hardship, insecurity and governance expected to remain prominent in public debate.

The singer did not endorse a specific political candidate or party in the comments reported.

His remarks have since generated discussion online, particularly around the influence of immediate financial incentives during elections and the longer-term consequences voters associate with political choices.
