Remi Tinubu Urges South-East Voters to Re-elect Husband in 2027: “I Want to Enjoy Nigeria at Old Age”

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has appealed to voters in the South-East to support the re-election of her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the 2027 presidential election.

She made the appeal on Wednesday in Owerri, Imo State, during an empowerment programme for women, where she spoke about the need to support efforts aimed at improving the country.

Addressing the gathering, the First Lady urged the people to vote for the President, saying she also wants to live in a better Nigeria as she grows older.

“Make una vote for Mr President, we go work for una and Nigeria go better.

“I want to enjoy Nigeria at old age, so I will work for Nigeria, for my old age.”

The appeal comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election begin to intensify, with President Tinubu expected to seek another term in office.

During the visit, Mrs Tinubu also highlighted the Federal Government-backed women empowerment programme being implemented through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The programme is designed to reach 18,500 women across Nigeria, with beneficiaries receiving various items intended to support their businesses and livelihoods. The initiative has previously been implemented in different parts of the country.

In Imo State, 500 women were initially selected to receive empowerment items including generators, industrial grinding machines, gas cylinders and ovens.

The First Lady said Governor Hope Uzodimma had provided an additional 2,000 empowerment items for women in the state, bringing the total number of beneficiaries in Imo to 2,500.

The empowerment programme is part of the broader Renewed Hope Initiative and its partnership with the SDG office, with the national target of reaching 18,500 women across the six geopolitical zones.

Mrs Tinubu’s political appeal in Imo adds to the growing activity surrounding the 2027 election, particularly as political parties and potential presidential candidates continue to seek support across the country’s regions.
