A prominent Ondo State businessman and owner of Esther Estate, Akinbolusere Kayode, popularly known as Tolufe, has died, hours after sharing an emotional video in which he discussed challenges surrounding his family and business.
Kayode reportedly died on Thursday, although the circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear at the time of reporting.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the businessman’s death. However, further details about the circumstances had not been established in the information available.
Before his death, Kayode had shared a video in which he spoke about his decision to leave his properties to his wife, Akinbolusere Esther, and their three children, who are reportedly based in Canada.
In the recording, he said the decision was made voluntarily and without pressure from anyone. He also acknowledged his wife’s support during the early years of his business career, particularly when he worked as a barber.
Kayode recalled starting his business from scratch and described his wife as someone who stood by him when he had little.
He also spoke about difficulties he had encountered at work, claiming that two machines he relied on for his business had developed faults.
“I am doing this video on behalf of my family. I, Akinbolusere Kayode, am doing my will on my properties. I am doing this on my own; nobody put pressure on me,” he said.
He subsequently explained why he wanted his wife and children to inherit his properties, praising his wife’s loyalty and support throughout their marriage.
“My wife stood by me when I had nothing and never for once wronged me. She was very supportive when I had nothing, especially when I was working as a barber,” he said.
Kayode also expressed regret over decisions he believed had affected his business, stating that he was responsible for some of the difficulties he had experienced.
The video has generated widespread discussion on social media following news of his death. Some users questioned whether he had been under pressure when recording the message, while others raised concerns about aspects of the circumstances surrounding the recording.
Several commenters suggested that the video appeared unusual and called for further investigation. However, these reactions represent speculation by social media users and do not establish that Kayode was threatened or forced to make the recording.
The circumstances surrounding his death, including whether any criminal activity was involved, had not been independently established at the time of reporting.
Kayode’s death has also drawn attention to the concerns he raised about his family and business in the video, particularly his decision to make arrangements for the inheritance of his properties.
Further clarification from the police is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the businessman’s death.
