A university lecturer has been handed over to the police after he was allegedly lured into a meeting by a married female student who accused him of repeatedly demanding sex in exchange for approving her academic project.
A video circulating on social media shows the lecturer pleading for mercy while being physically assaulted before he was reportedly taken into police custody.
According to claims circulating online, the lecturer serves as the Head of the Department of History and International Studies at Northwest University, formerly known as Yusuf Maitama Sule University, and is also a visiting lecturer at Mariam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).
The student allegedly accused the lecturer of refusing to approve her project for about two years because she repeatedly rejected his alleged sexual advances.
Reports further claim that after informing her husband about the alleged harassment, the couple arranged a meeting with the lecturer as part of a plan to confront him.
According to the claims, the lecturer allegedly agreed to meet the woman after Maghrib prayers. However, when he arrived at the agreed location, he reportedly met the woman’s husband and other individuals, who confronted and assaulted him before handing him over to the police.
Unverified screenshots, said to be conversations between the lecturer and the student, have also been circulated online, although their authenticity has not been independently confirmed.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Northwest University nor Mariam Abacha American University of Nigeria has issued an official statement on the incident. The police have also not publicly confirmed the allegations or disclosed whether any formal charges have been filed.
