Popular Asaba-based content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as Odogwu Asaba, is in police custody following allegations that he raped a 20-year-old nursing student, Favour Agbro, who later died in a suspected suicide.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed that the content creator was arrested as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to reports, the events began on June 1, 2026, after Favour allegedly travelled to Asaba following an invitation from Odogwu Asaba, who reportedly promised to mentor and train her in content creation through a programme he promoted on social media.
It is alleged that after arriving in Asaba, Favour was taken to a hotel, where she was sexually assaulted and physically attacked.
Following the alleged incident, the nursing student reportedly consumed a toxic substance and later died despite efforts to save her life.
Before her death, videos believed to have been recorded by Favour surfaced online, in which she made allegations against Odogwu Asaba and narrated her version of the events. The videos have since gone viral, sparking widespread public outrage and renewed conversations about the safety of young women seeking opportunities in the digital content industry.
The case gained further attention after a petition was reportedly submitted to the police by activist Comrade Israel Joe, prompting an official investigation.
Confirming the arrest, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspect was apprehended at his residence in Asaba and remains in police custody.
According to the police spokesperson, Odogwu Asaba has made what investigators described as “useful statements,” while detectives continue gathering evidence to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations.
The police also urged members of the public to avoid spreading unverified claims, stressing that investigations remain ongoing.
Meanwhile, reports circulating on social media have claimed that the content creator attempted to reach a settlement with the victim’s family after his arrest. However, these claims have not been independently verified by the police or other official authorities.
The incident has triggered widespread calls for justice, with many Nigerians demanding a thorough investigation and accountability if the allegations are proven.
