23-Year-Old Woman Killed After Man Falls From 12th Floor Near Yabamachi Station in Nagoya, Japan

A 23-year-old woman lost her life after a man fell from the 12th floor of a building and landed on her in Nagoya, central Japan, in a tragic incident that has shocked residents.

The victim, identified as Houra Inaba, was walking with a friend in the early hours of July 19 when 29-year-old Shinsei Taguchi plunged from the high-rise building. The impact critically injured both individuals.

Emergency services responded quickly and transported the pair to a nearby hospital. However, doctors confirmed Inaba had died from her injuries. Taguchi remains unconscious and is receiving treatment in critical condition.

The incident occurred near Yabamachi Station in Nagoya’s bustling Sakae district, an area known for its commercial buildings, shopping centres, offices and heavy pedestrian activity. Police secured the location while forensic investigators examined the scene and collected evidence.

The Aichi Prefectural Police said investigations are ongoing to determine what led to the fall. Authorities have not yet established whether the incident resulted from an accident or an intentional act.

The fatal incident has drawn attention because of similar tragedies recorded in Japan in recent years. In August 2024, a 17-year-old girl fell from a commercial building in Yokohama, killing herself and a 32-year-old woman who was walking below. Earlier, in October 2020, a 17-year-old boy jumped from a commercial complex in Osaka, fatally striking a 19-year-old university student on the street.

Police have stressed that there is currently no evidence linking the Nagoya case to those earlier incidents. Investigators are continuing their inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the latest tragedy.
