Benue Declares One-Week Holiday For Easter, Workers React As Govt Gives Reason

The Benue State Government has approved a one week public holiday for civil servants to mark the Easter celebration.

State authorities said the decision is to allow workers fully observe the Christian festival, which remains one of the most important events in the religious calendar.

Officials explained that the break will give employees time to rest, travel, and spend time with their families during the festive period.

The government also noted that the holiday provides an opportunity for spiritual reflection, as Easter commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Residents were encouraged to use the period to pray for peace, unity, and development in the state.

The directive comes amid ongoing security concerns in parts of Benue, particularly related to clashes between farmers and herders.

Authorities urged citizens to maintain peace and comply with all laws throughout the holiday.

Reactions from civil servants have been positive, with many saying the extended break will help them recover from work stress and reconnect with loved ones.

Some residents also noted that the holiday could boost local economic activities, as travel and spending are expected to increase during the period.

Meanwhile, essential service providers including healthcare workers and security personnel will continue to operate to ensure services are not disrupted.
