Wike Storms PDP Headquarters, Begs Defectors To Return Ahead Of 2027 Battle

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Friday visited the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja, where he appealed to former members who left the party to return.

Wike said his visit was aimed at reaffirming loyalty to the party and showing support for the newly constituted National Working Committee.

According to him, the PDP has gone through internal crises but is gradually recovering and must now focus on rebuilding ahead of future elections.

He urged the party leadership to intensify reconciliation efforts by reaching out to aggrieved members and defectors who may still be interested in returning.

Wike noted that many politicians move based on opportunities such as party tickets, adding that the leadership understands the steps needed to restore unity.

The former Rivers State governor also warned against distractions, including legal battles, expressing confidence that the PDP would overcome its challenges.

He dismissed claims by smaller political groups seeking to position themselves as the main opposition force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Wike, true opposition relevance is measured through electoral victories and not public statements alone.

He maintained that any emergency coalition formed solely to seize power in 2027 would struggle without proven grassroots support.

Responding, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed assured members that the new leadership is committed to repositioning the party and restoring public confidence.

He said the PDP remains a strong platform capable of competing for national leadership and winning future elections.

National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu also praised Wike’s continued support, describing the visit as a morale booster for the party leadership.
