The Ogun State Government has released the outcome of its investigation into the controversial rape allegation made by Miss Nsikak Abigael Emem, popularly known as Mirabel, concluding that there was no evidence to support her claim and that the alleged incident never occurred.
The findings were disclosed in a statement issued by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), who said extensive investigations conducted by relevant authorities established that the allegation was false.
According to the Ministry of Justice, investigators thoroughly examined the circumstances surrounding the case and found no evidence indicating that Mirabel was raped.
The government stated that information gathered during the investigation, including admissions allegedly made by Mirabel herself, led authorities to conclude that the allegation was deliberately fabricated.
Government Says No Crime Occurred
The Ministry explained that because the alleged rape did not occur, there was consequently no offender to arrest or prosecute.
According to the government, the investigation established that there was no individual responsible for the alleged crime and no threat to public safety arising from the matter.
The statement emphasized that the conclusion was based on findings gathered during the investigation carried out by relevant agencies and authorities.
Why Mirabel Will Not Be Prosecuted
Despite determining that the allegation was false, the Ogun State Government announced that it would not pursue criminal charges against Mirabel.
Instead, authorities opted for a rehabilitation-based intervention after considering the circumstances surrounding the case.
According to the Ministry of Justice, government officials concluded that psycho-social rehabilitation would serve the interests of justice more effectively than prosecution.
The government stated that the decision was reached after careful assessment of Mirabel’s condition and overall welfare.
Rehabilitation Programme Underway
As part of the intervention, Mirabel has been placed under the care of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
The ministry is currently providing counseling, support services and other forms of assistance aimed at helping her recover and rebuild her life.
According to the government, professionals have continued to monitor her progress through regular assessments and periodic reports.
Authorities said initial feedback indicates that she is responding positively to the rehabilitation programme.
