The Board of Trustees of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports claiming that some of the party’s candidates are planning legal action against its leadership, describing the allegations as false and misleading.
The party made its position known in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
The statement came as the PDP also announced a fresh development in its legal battle with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the recognition of its Interim National Working Committee (NWC).
According to the party, its suit seeking an order compelling INEC to recognise the Interim National Working Committee constituted by the National Executive Committee (NEC) came up for hearing before the court earlier on Tuesday.
The PDP stated that lawyers representing all parties in the case adopted their respective processes before the court, after which the matter was adjourned for judgment.
The date for the judgment, the party said, is yet to be communicated by the court.
“Earlier today, the case instituted by the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party seeking an order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Interim National Working Committee constituted by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party, came up for hearing before the court,” the statement said.
“Following the adoption of their respective processes by counsel to all the parties, the matter was adjourned for judgment on a date to be communicated by the court.”
The party also used the opportunity to refute claims that some of its candidates were considering legal action against the leadership headed by Turaki.
According to the PDP, there has been no disagreement between the candidates and the party leadership, contrary to reports circulating in some quarters.
