Popular TikTok personality Habeeb Peller Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has been formally charged in a Lagos magistrate court alongside one Bello Oladipo over an incident involving police officers.
The two appeared in court on Monday following events that unfolded on July 2, 2026, along Coastal Road in the Lekki area of Lagos. Prosecutors accused them of three offences: conspiracy to commit a felony, obstructing public officers in the discharge of their duties, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.
The case stems from a video that went viral last week, showing Peller in a heated exchange with security personnel. In the footage, the content creator claimed he was being harassed by officers who stopped him for driving a vehicle without a number plate. He explained that he had only recently purchased the car.
Peller alleged in the clip that one of the officers pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at his head during the encounter. The charge sheet, however, presents a different account, stating that the defendants blocked four police officers, including ASP Agbede Victor, while they were carrying out their lawful responsibilities. They are also accused of intimidating the officers and recording them on video.
Court documents detail the allegations as follows: On July 2, 2026, at about 8pm at Coastal Road, Lekki, the pair allegedly conspired to resist public officers, an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
They further face charges of obstructing ASP Agbede Victor and three other officers in the performance of their duties, contrary to Section 117(1)(2) of the same law. Additionally, they are accused of violating public order by threatening and filming the officers, punishable under Section 168(a) & (d) of the Criminal Code.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to all counts. The magistrate granted each of them bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties. One of the sureties must be a blood relation, and both sureties are required to provide tax clearance certificates for the past two years.
A police source confirmed the arraignment when contacted on Tuesday, though details regarding the exact court and full bail conditions could not be immediately verified.
The development has sparked conversations online about interactions between law enforcement and social media influencers, particularly in high-profile areas like Lekki. Peller’s large following on TikTok has amplified interest in the case, with supporters and critics weighing in on the viral video and the subsequent legal proceedings.
