Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has added another major international award to his career after his latest album, 5ive, won Album of the Year at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA).
The award was confirmed by AFRIMMA on Tuesday, September 15, following the 2026 AFRIMMA Festival and awards ceremony held on September 12 at Annette Strauss Square in Dallas, Texas.
Davido entered this year’s ceremony as the most-nominated artiste, with five nominations across major categories.
His 5ive album emerged ahead of a competitive Album of the Year field that included Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness, Asake’s M$NEY, Omah Lay’s Clarity of Mind and Black Sherif’s Top of The Morning Era.
Other nominees in the category were Tyla’s A-Pop, Lloyiso’s Never Thought I Could, Leigh-Anne’s My Ego Told Me To and Himra’s SORRY I’M BAD.
The victory gives Davido one of the biggest honours from this year’s AFRIMMA, which returned in 2026 after a two-year break. The organisers described the event as a celebration of African artists, culture and their growing global influence.
Davido was also nominated for Artist of the Year, Best Male West Africa and the Crossing Boundaries With Music Award, among his five nominations.
However, the singer did not take home the Artist of the Year prize. That award went to Fally Ipupa, according to AFRIMMA’s official list of winners.
The Album of the Year victory nevertheless marks another notable achievement for 5ive, placing Davido ahead of several of Africa’s biggest music stars in one of the major categories at the Dallas ceremony.
AFRIMMA’s 2026 edition brought together artists and music industry figures from across Africa and the diaspora, further reflecting the expanding international audience for African music.
