The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has lifted its restriction on SIM swapping and email changes, allowing candidates who have lost access to their registered phone numbers or email accounts to update their details through a controlled verification process.
The new arrangement took effect on Monday, September 21, 2026, and is available to candidates who can no longer access the GSM numbers or recover the email accounts linked to their JAMB profiles.
In a statement issued by its Director of Communications, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB said the decision followed the introduction of enhanced identity and biometric verification measures designed to reduce the risk of fraud, impersonation and unauthorised alterations to candidates’ records.
Under the revised procedure, candidates can request a change of their registered GSM number, email address or both.
However, JAMB stressed that the service is available only once per candidate.
Candidates seeking the service are required to provide their new phone number and/or email address, alongside a duly executed court affidavit that has been scanned and is ready for upload.
They must also log into their JAMB e-Facility profile, make the required payment for the service and visit a designated JAMB CBT, PTC/PRC Centre or applicable JAMB state office for biometric verification.
The Board said the requested changes would only be effected after the candidate completes the required verification process.
“The SIM swap and/or email change service shall be available only once,” JAMB stressed.
The Board advised candidates to use the facility only in genuine circumstances and to patronise designated JAMB centres rather than unauthorised agents.
JAMB said the revised policy was introduced to ensure that candidates who genuinely lose access to their registered credentials are not unnecessarily disadvantaged, while maintaining safeguards against unauthorised changes to admission and examination records.
