Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will pay ₦4,000 only once to verify their WAEC O’Level results through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, the board and the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, have clarified.
The clarification followed consultations between JAMB and WAEC over the recently introduced system allowing candidates to upload and verify their WASSCE O’Level results remotely.
Under the arrangement, candidates whose admissions are coordinated through JAMB are expected to complete their WAEC result verification through JAMB and pay the prescribed ₦4,000 fee.
Once the result has been successfully verified, JAMB will make the verification outcome available to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission.
The two examination bodies stressed that candidates will not be required to pay another verification fee to their chosen institutions.
“Candidates are to pay N4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’ Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions,” the joint statement said.
JAMB and WAEC also directed tertiary institutions to use the verified results transmitted by JAMB when screening candidates, processing admissions and carrying out other related administrative activities.
The agencies stated:
“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification.”
The development is expected to reduce the financial burden and inconvenience faced by admission seekers who previously encountered separate verification requirements during the admission process.
JAMB had recently introduced a system that allows candidates to upload and verify their O’Level results remotely from home or any location with internet access. The arrangement was initially introduced with WAEC results and is designed to allow JAMB to verify candidates’ academic records directly with the examination body.
Under the new system, candidates who successfully complete the verification will not need to repeat the same exercise for the institution processing their admission.
WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification with relevant tertiary institutions for admission and other administrative purposes.
The joint statement said:
“WAEC has agreed to permit JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with the relevant tertiary institutions.”
The bodies said the arrangement was introduced to prevent candidates from being subjected to repeated verification exercises and additional payments after completing the process through JAMB.
The policy also seeks to reduce the need for candidates to repeatedly visit JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres or individual institutions for verification of the same academic result.
Candidates have therefore been advised to complete their WASSCE O’Level verification through the designated JAMB platform and retain the relevant verification information for use during the admission process.
The clarification means the ₦4,000 charge is a one-time verification payment, rather than a fee that candidates should pay separately to each tertiary institution.
JAMB and WAEC said the collaboration would help simplify the admission process while strengthening the verification of candidates’ academic records and reducing opportunities for the submission of fake or altered results.
The policy comes as candidates continue preparations for the 2026/2027 tertiary admission process, with O’Level results remaining an important requirement for admission screening and eligibility.
