VeryDarkMan Reveals Why His Friendship With Davido Ended, Alleges Crew Planned His Arrest

Social media activist VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, has explained why his relationship with Afrobeats star Davido reportedly broke down, alleging that members of the singer’s crew were involved in a WhatsApp group where plans to have him arrested over the Justice for Mohbad campaign were discussed.

The activist made the allegation while recounting how he initially became acquainted with Davido and how their relationship changed following what he described as a betrayal.

According to VeryDarkMan, he was excited when the singer followed him on social media. The two subsequently became friendly, with the activist occasionally promoting Davido’s music whenever he released new songs.

He said they also exchanged private messages, although he claimed that most of their conversations involved Davido asking him for favours.

“After Davido followed me, I was excited. After then, we became cool. If he drops music, I’ll show love by promoting it. We had a couple of conversations in the DM, but to be very honest, it was always him asking for favours. I’ve never asked him to do anything for me,” he said.

However, VeryDarkMan claimed that the relationship changed after he obtained a WhatsApp group conversation in 2025, allegedly involving actress Iyabo Ojo, Tonto Dikeh, musician Samklef, producer K-Solo and some members of Davido’s DMW crew.

He alleged that the messages showed discussions about having him arrested in 2024 over questions he raised about the circumstances surrounding the death of singer Mohbad.

The activist said he was particularly disappointed because he had maintained friendly relationships with some of the individuals he claimed were involved in the conversation.

“I was surprised. Me and Davido, we dey cool, and me and the same crew guys were always laughing. How come these guys were the ones who planned my arrest when I was spending months in Kuje?” he questioned.

VeryDarkMan said he subsequently attempted to contact Davido several times to seek clarification about the alleged involvement of members of his crew and what the singer knew about the discussions surrounding the Justice for Mohbad campaign.

He claimed that Davido did not answer his calls.

The activist further alleged that media personality Cutie Juls later published a post about his attempts to reach the singer, leading some social media users to accuse him of trying to record Davido’s voice for possible blackmail.

VeryDarkMan dismissed that interpretation, insisting that he only wanted an explanation from someone he had considered a friend.

“I was betrayed. I was like, why? I just wanted to confirm something. I wanted to ask why your boys were in such a WhatsApp group. When he did that, it was very, very disappointing,” he said.

He added that he eventually sent Davido a message expressing his disappointment and making it clear that he no longer considered their relationship a friendship.

Recounting what he allegedly told the singer, VeryDarkMan said he would no longer maintain the same friendly relationship with him if they crossed paths.

The allegations have brought renewed attention to the activist’s past involvement in the campaign seeking justice over Mohbad’s death and his reported detention in 2024.

However, the alleged WhatsApp conversation and the involvement of the named individuals have not been independently established from the account provided. Davido and the other people mentioned have not been given a response in the supplied report.
