Atletico Madrid Reject €75m Victor Osimhen Transfer Despite Nigerian Star’s Willingness to Take Pay Cut

Atletico Madrid have reportedly decided against signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen after being presented with the opportunity to secure his services from Turkish champions Galatasaray in a deal valued at around €75 million.

According to reports, representatives acting on behalf of Galatasaray approached the Spanish club to gauge their interest in the Super Eagles forward during the ongoing summer transfer window. Despite the proposal, Atletico declined to pursue the move.

The 27-year-old was reportedly open to reducing his salary to increase his chances of joining Diego Simeone’s side. Osimhen is believed to be keen on playing under the experienced Argentine coach and was willing to make financial sacrifices to facilitate the transfer.

However, Atletico Madrid are said to have ruled out the deal primarily because of financial constraints. Completing a transfer worth €75 million is considered beyond the club’s current spending capacity as they continue to manage their budget during the transfer window.

Another major factor behind the decision is the club’s confidence in Argentine striker Julián Álvarez, who currently occupies the central attacking role. Atletico’s management reportedly sees Álvarez as a long-term solution in that position and has no intention of selling him, making another high-profile striker unnecessary.

Osimhen, who is under contract with Galatasaray until 2029, remains one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards. His current earnings in Turkey are reportedly boosted by favourable tax regulations available to foreign players, making his salary package particularly attractive.

Even so, the Nigerian international was reportedly prepared to earn less if it meant securing a move to Atletico Madrid and working under Simeone.

Despite Osimhen’s willingness to compromise financially and his reported interest in the Spanish club, Atletico Madrid have chosen not to proceed with the transfer, leaving the striker’s future at Galatasaray unchanged for now.
