Social media activist VeryDarkMan and a group of his supporters on Thursday visited a Nigerian Air Force facility in Abuja, calling on security agencies to intensify efforts against kidnappers and bandits amid growing concerns over insecurity across the country.
The development came shortly after the activist returned to Nigeria following days outside the country.
In videos that have since gone viral on social media, VeryDarkMan and his supporters were seen sitting in front of the military facility while demanding stronger action against criminal groups responsible for kidnappings and attacks on communities.
Addressing the issue, the activist questioned the nation’s approach to tackling insecurity and argued that greater resources and attention should be directed towards confronting armed groups terrorising citizens.
“Nigeria Air Force, if you have bullets to shoot us, you should also have bullets to shoot kidnappers and bandits. Take your aircraft to the bush and shoot them,” he said.
The protest comes at a time of heightened public anxiety following a series of kidnappings and attacks reported in different parts of the country, including the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers that has sparked nationwide outrage.
The videos generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians praising VeryDarkMan for taking his concerns directly to security authorities, while others criticised his approach and warned of possible consequences.
One X user, identified as @ani49488, wrote: “Absolutely! VDM is who he thinks he is. Enough is enough.”
Another user, @donholyma, described the activist’s actions as courageous.
“He didn’t just talk on the internet. He went straight to the Air Force base in Abuja to ask the real question. You people collect over ₦400 billion every year, yet insecurity is still killing us every single day.
“Bandits, terrorists and kidnappers must go indeed. VDM, you’re a real one for this. No fear, no shaking. You’re out here putting your neck on the line for the rest of us.”
However, not everyone supported the demonstration.
A user identified as @Real_Akinkunmi expressed concerns about the possible outcome of the protest, writing: “It’s about to be a very long movie. I can’t wait to see if heaven will fall. VDM will learn the hard way.”
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigerian Air Force nor other security agencies had issued an official statement regarding the activist’s visit to the facility.
The demonstration adds to the growing chorus of voices demanding more decisive action from authorities as insecurity continues to dominate national conversations.
