Media personality Miss Goldilocks has criticised Nigerians who have been focusing on the reported price of a luxury handbag carried by Margaret Obi, wife of former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi, amid the country’s economic challenges.
The comments come as debate continues online over a Hermès handbag reportedly carried by Margaret Obi, with some social media users questioning whether the luxury item is consistent with Peter Obi’s public image of financial prudence.
Miss Goldilocks argued that Nigerians should pay greater attention to issues directly affecting their daily lives, particularly the rising cost of petrol.
“Of all the problems Nigerians are facing under this government, fuel is currently ₦1,450, yet some Nigerians are only focused on the price of Mr Peter Obi’s wife’s handbag.”
She noted that Peter Obi had accumulated his wealth before his time in public office and questioned why his wife’s fashion choices had become a major subject of public discussion.
“He is a billionaire in every currency across the world and has built his wealth over the years.”
Miss Goldilocks also referenced donations reportedly made by Obi to schools and hospitals during his travels across the country, arguing that similar attention was not given to those activities.
“When Peter Obi was travelling from one state to another, donating ₦20 million, ₦15 million and ₦10 million to schools and hospitals across the country, none of you spoke about it.”
Her comments add to the growing public debate surrounding the luxury handbag, which has generated differing reactions on social media.
While critics have questioned the optics of an expensive handbag in relation to Obi’s public image of personal frugality, supporters have argued that his family’s private spending should not be conflated with his record in public office or his political campaign.
“Of all the problems Nigerians are facing under this APC government, fuel is currently ₦1,450, yet some Nigerians are only focused on the price of Mr Peter Obi’s wife’s handbag. He is a billionaire in every currency across the world and has built his wealth over the years.

The reported price of the handbag has also not been independently established, and there is no evidence presented in the controversy that public funds were used to purchase it.
